[fic] Duet {8059 PWP}
(note to self: start tagging your posts. now you want to find a particular discussion and you're confusing yourself :E)

cotton candy, because i need a break from The Tenth Diary.

also because they make beautiful music together, baybee XD

People who play musical instruments have a tendency to drum their fingers. When they do this, it's a sign that their guard is down. Sometimes their fingers drum on empty air, sometimes it's on any surface, flat or otherwise. They do it while they're thinking, or when they're trying to remember something, or when their mind is blank and they're busy feeling and their reflexes are kicking in.

In Gokudera's case, he does it when he's asleep. Whenever he does this, He must be dreaming, Yamamoto says to himself. The fingers of his right hand on Yamamoto's chest or belly or waist would start to move on their own, hard enough to wake the other boy, but not hard enough to hurt, never that hard.

In fact, it kind of tickles.

Yamamoto has caught Gokudera tapping his fingers like this, like he was pressing invisible ivory keys. He was awake then, but he stopped himself. Then he looked nonchalant, as if he was confident that even if anyone caught him doing it, no one would associate it with him as a habit.

Yamamoto didn't really know why Gokudera didn't want anyone knowing that he played the piano. He played beautifully, though he only played once, and only because Yamamoto wouldn't leave him alone until he did.

Maybe it had something to do with what Gokudera said, with a bitterness he didn't even bother to disguise: "I'm not as good as I used to be."

Yamamoto would have said then that it didn't matter how good he used to be.

They say you never forget how to play an instrument. And Yamamoto may not be an expert on playing instruments at all, but he knows this: the sounds made by his fingers moving on Gokudera's bare skin are music. The cries and soft sighs against his neck, into his mouth, are nothing anyone else's hands could have brought about. This is his art, and with every attempt, he is slowly perfecting it. Slowly but surely he is memorizing the right tempo, the right softness or hardness, the right combination of motion and whisper.

Yamamoto knows nothing about music. But he likes to think that the pieces Gokudera plays in his sleep are all original compositions, his own impact on his lover's existence writing itself into him. And he likes to think that even in the end, even after they've parted ways, and nights like this have become echoes of a long-lost ballad, Gokudera, too, would find a way to remember.

Haha. Short enough for me to read. Even though I'm no longer reading 8059 (WHERE IS MY GOKU/HARU?) I really really like the parallel you drew up on the 8th paragraph.

Though, out of curiosity, is the first two lines true? I don't play so I wouldn't know. :P (I also don't drum my fingers except when I'm VERYANNOYED.)

WHAT ARE YOU DOING AWAKE THIS LATE. though you can ask me that too, i have to go to work in a few hours rrrr.

and since you asked, WHERE IS MY GOKU/HARU PROMPT. i asked you for this not too long ago, iirc. i'm currently writing hibagoku if that makes up for anything, anyhow?

also, no idea if the first two lines are accurate. i know i do it, and i've seen other people who play instruments do it, and one thing i've noticed is that they/we hardly ever do it consciously. it could also be a memorization technique, like i've heard rhythmic actions help people remember things better. but for fic purposes, i'd like to get away with saying something like this.

so the next time you see someone drumming their fingers, think of it as an invitation to do something unexpected. like tweak their noses or slip a date rape drug in their coffee or something.

I would say writing Ingus/Luneth fic, but that would be a lie. I will answer that at the end of this comment though.

WHY DO I HAVE TO GIVE YOU A GOKU/HARU PROMPT? HibaGoku works. I can be appeased with HibaGoku.

It's a curious habit, one I haven't actually seen you do by and by. But then we all know I'm not the most observant person in the world. Next time I see you do that I think I'll try to swipe your wallet.

So anyway, I was playing Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates and I seemed to be at the final dungeon. Which I thought was absurd because I'm only 11 hours in so I went back on to check a FAQ just to see if I was (and I am). And one thing lead to another and I am still awake.

What's your excuse.

i'm writing your hibagoku fic. going by that logic, you owe me.

must remember not to bring a wallet next time we meet.

you're going through that game fast, aren't you. and still no ingus/luneth fic. alas, i see this non-fandom dying out even before it was even born.

I forgot to say, yes you should tag. I wanted to reread your SanaKiri fic(s), and a quick skim through your memories I mostly saw YanaKiri. Will look through them again when I should not be not sleeping.

Well I wasn't really expecting it to be that long, especially as an rpg in a handheld console, but it was still shorter than I expected. Boss fights were ridiculously easy.

See, this is why I fangirl over my non-fandoms in IM. So I actually have a chance to fangirl them before they die an untimely death. Their memory will live on!

have only ever written one sanakiri, and it's even gen. you can kill me after you've read it again.

see, i will never tag my tenipuri fics. not going through all that again. you're welcome to tag them for me if you want, but yeah. not even my ten-foot pole likes them.

what's the next FF on your list? i seem to remember we talked about FF6(? the one with sabin and edgar and the rest) but i don't remember if you were wishing it existed, or if you were setting up to play it.

So I went through the comments on that one to see if I ever commented on it and oh ok so I did. But WHAT THE HELL IS A KIRIMON. And why did I have an otp with it. lol. I do recall that it was gen, but I also really liked it, so there. I could always fall back on the YanaKiri fics to get over the gen anyway.

Well as long as they're all in the memories that's good enough!

Hmm. Final Fantasy 12: Revenant Wings. Which was a kind of sequel to the game that they released for the DS. Will probably play Heroes of Mana first though. I'm still wishing it existed. They've already remade FFIV (remember the awesome Kain armor), but no news on the FF5 and FF6 yet.

Aaah. I ended up reading Rufus/Reno fics. FTL.

Gods see. I'm pretty sure I read that, but don't actually recall any of it.

Haven't read AC fics either. Was reading mostly fics set during the FF7 gameverse actually. I never was much of an FF7 fic reader either, so did not know which authors to go stalking to for good fic. Did not find any I liked enough.

Awesome fic! I really liked it. I always get scared when people start writing about music (sorry for holding it against you before just reading ;; ), but you did a great job. : )

*drums fingers, too OTL*

nono it's fine, i've come across fics that mess up bad when descriptions about music come into play. in fact, i'm pretty sure i've done it once or twice XD; but i'm glad it doesn't seem like i did that here. thanks for reading, and i'm glad you liked it!

out of curiosity, do you play an instrument?

I'm sure I'd find a way to mess it up if I tried. |D

Yes, I play violin! Not very well, but it's something. ;;; Wish I knew how to play piano! (And what do you play? 8D )

piano and guitar. mostly guitar. and not very well either, but at least enthusiastically :D;

i should conduct a finger-drummers' poll sometime, maybe. just to know how i can better incorporate that habit in fic XD

No they have to be together forever!!1 -- and I don't even OTP this.

The fic is lovely and soft and sweet. I like how Yamamoto is hoping for a kind of undercover affection, and Gokudera just might be giving it to him. It's very *them*.

thank you for reading ♥ sometimes i see gokudera as the type who's been hurt profoundly, and therefore can only express affection unconsciously. except if the other person happens to be tsuna. and then it'll be okay because, y'know, he's the boss and professing your eternal service, love, loyalty etc to your boss is natural and done all the time in sicily. so being overtly overfond of any other guy who is not your boss is just not done. there are no words for such a disgrace. so maybe something like that doesn't come out as words at all, and doesn't come out when he's awake.

...omg ok XD; sorry for the logorrhea. i'm glad you liked!
